Seminar, Open Conference and Training Workshop on Human Longevity, Individual Life Duration and the Growth of the Oldest-old Population

Outline

The Seminar

This seminar will address four major themes data quality; central and dispersion indicators; associated factors and living conditions of the oldest-old.

The Seminar will be the basis for the production of a book of invited individual chapters and will last three days in Montpellier.

Session 1

Interspecies differences in longevity: biological aspects
Trajectories of human mortality in old age: demographic aspects

Session 2

Growth of nonagenarians and centenarians, and emergence of super centenarians

Session 3

Social factors associated with individual life duration: individual life style and social environment
Nutrition and individual life duration
Social disparities and life expectancy

Session 4

Central and dispersion indicators of individual life duration: concepts and theories
Central and dispersion indicators of individual life duration: methodology and empirical results

Session 5

Genetic factors associated with individual life duration: gene specific effects
Genetic factors associated with individual life duration: heritability

Session 6

Sources of data and data base development: age information quality (historical data, twin data)

Session 7

Marital status and family support of the oldest-old

Session 8

Central and dispersion indicators of individual life duration: methodology and empirical results

Session 9

Causes of death among the oldest-old: data quality
Causes of death among the oldest-old: structure and age variation through adulthood

Session 10

Interaction between genetics and environmental factors in individual life duration

The open conference

One day open Conference to be held after the seminar in Montpellier and could possibly include the following speakers

J. Marmotte (Epidemiologist)

The training session

To be held in Paris (one day) with targeted participants that would typically be graduate-level students with some basic knowledge of life tables construction and analysis. The training would include three lectures.
