Seminar, Symposium and Training Workshop on Longer Life and Healthy Ageing

Outline

IUSSP Committee on Health and Longevity, China Population Association, and Healthy Ageing and Family Studies Center of Peking university are pleased to announce:

    IUSSP Seminar on “Longer Life and Healthy Ageing”. October 22-24, 2001 at Peking university Campus in Beijing (on IUSSP Invitation only).

    “International Symposium on Healthy Ageing Studies in China”. October 25, 2001 at Peking university Campus in Beijing (Open to PUBLIC). Four sessions include presentations of 12 academic papers, 4 international discussants’ comments and open discussions. Simultaneous translation between English and Chinese will be provided. Lunch and dinner will be provided to registered participants. No registration fee is required.

    Training Workshop on Healthy Ageing Research Methods. October 26-27, at Peking university Campus in Beijing (open to all qualified applicants outside and inside China). Working language: English (and Chinese translation).

Tentative training schedules are as follows: Prof. Jean-Marie Robine: Active Life Expectancy in the Context of Increasing Longevity (background, concept, rational, policy relevance);
Prof. C. Jagger: Calculation of Health Life Expectancy with the Sullivan Method;
Prof. Y. Saito: Computer in-hand Practice Session for the Calculation of Healthy Life Expectancy;
Prof. E. Crimmins or Prof. M. Hayward: Discussion with an opening to other methods on Healthy Ageing Research;
Prof. Zeng Yi: New Method and Software (ProFamy) for projecting family households and living arrangements of elderly;
Prof. Guo Zhigang: Research Methods on Intergenerational Relationships in the Context of Population Ageing;
Dr. Wu Deqing: Statistical Software Application on Survival Analysis in Healthy Ageing studies;
Dr. Gu Danan: Application of Grade of Membership (GoM) Method and Software in Healthy Ageing Studies.

Printed training material (text or outline) in English language will be provided to trainees.
International participants to the Training Workshop on Research Methods on Healthy Ageing (October 26-27) and the International Symposium on Healthy Ageing Studies (October 25) need to pay $200 to cover 4-night hotel room (international standard, one room shared by two persons), all training materials, computer renting costs and food on October 25-27. A participant who wants to occupy a single room will need to pay $300 (4-day hotel, training material, computer, and food October 25-27).
Applicants should send an application letter including the following information:

Full Name, Sex, Birth Date, Nationality, Passport Number. Degree received or degree to be received for those currently enrolled students. Who will provide your travel costs. Currently enrolled students’ application letter should be verified by his or her supervisor
(simply signed by the supervisor with typed name, title and institution affiliation). Please send your application letter to:
