I am sorry to hear about the passing away of Pat Caldwell. The last time I saw her was at the 2005 IUSSP meeting in France, and I enjoyed the discussion that I had with her at that time. I did not know that I would not see her again. What a pity. She was like a mother to all students from Nigeria who came to the Australian National University to study demography. I am sure those from several other countries will say the same thing about her. I remember that she and Jack took the time to travel to a remote area to see me when I was doing the fieldwork for my dissertation and encouraged me to further explore some topics by using in-depth interviews. I know that Professor Caldwell will feel her departure very deeply. My heart goes out to him at this difficult time. It is my prayer that God will grant him and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
