Outline: Communicating with peers by publishing journal articles is an essential part of the research process. Publication enables researchers to share new findings and ideas as well as gather feedback that can enhance future studies. Yet the process of submitting articles to a peer-reviewed journal can be a daunting one. This panel will bring together the editorial staff of several highly regarded population journals to shed light on this process. A panel of editors from leading peer-reviewed, print and electronic journals will
  • Outline their journals’ priorities and areas of interest;
  • Suggest appropriate vocabularies and methodological detail to match their readers’ level of knowledge;
  • Review selection criteria for acceptance of articles;
  • Explain the review and editing processes that lead to publication; and
  • Discuss the pros and cons of on-line publication of research findings.
