Members of the union are elected to membership in the manner laid down in Article 9 of the Constitution.
Membership and Services to Members
Individuals are elected to membership of the IUSSP by the Council. Candidates would normally be expected to be the holder of an advanced degree in a subject related to population or be the author of one or more scientific Publicationson population or have contributed to the field through research, writing, teaching or administration. Membership starts after the candidate has accepted his/her election and has paid his/her membership fees.
The IUSSP has a total membership of around 2000 individuals with a variety of scientific and professional backgrounds, coming from more than 130 countries.
Since 2009, regular members pay annual fees of US$125 or €90, but reduced fees are offered to applicants with special circumstances. For the current fee structure and methods of payment see the page on Annual Membership Fees.

Procedure for Membership Election
Application forms (available on this Web Site) shall be submitted to the Secretariat of the IUSSP. They shall contain a statement of the candidate's present position, principal past positions and scientific Publicationsand other information as required in the application form.
All applications for membership will be submitted to the Council, which will either approve or reject them. Candidates whose applications are approved by the Council shall become members of the IUSSP with effect from payment of first fees.
The IUSSP Secretariat shall notify the candidates of their election and shall invite them to accept and at the same time to pay their membership fees. Elected candidates become members of the IUSSP after complying with these requests.
