Over 770 funding applications were submitted by Conference participants. The IUSSP and the Moroccan National Organizing Committee (NOC) were only able to fund about half of those applicants as funds for travel support are limited. The funding review group took into consideration the applicant’s role in the Conference program, the applicant’s career stage, and the income status of applicant’s country of residence in making awards. Funds were more likely to be allocated to applicants who reside in low-income countries and who were the first author of a paper on the regular program. Only one author per communication was offered funding.
The Moroccan NOC is funding approximately 100 participants following their own procedures. They will be contacting recipients by 1 July.
IUSSP Conference support includes one or more of the following: registration fees, travel support to partially defray travel costs, and/or up to 9 days room and board in one of the Conference hotels. All funded participants are expected to cover any additional costs including visa fees and personal travel insurance.
Registration Fees
In those cases where registration fees are covered in the offer of financial support, the registration fees will be paid for by the IUSSP. We thank all those who paid their registration fees in advance.
Accommodation
The IUSSP is able to offer participants up to 9 days room and board (breakfast and dinner) at one of the Conference hotels. Funded applicants who requested accommodation will be assigned to a hotel after we receive your Confirmation form with the dates of your arrival and departure. In many cases we provided accommodation instead of travel funds because travel funds are limited but we were able to negotiate a large number of hotel rooms.
We thank all participants who agreed to share accommodations with another participant as this has enabled us to fund far more participants than we initially anticipated. We will assign funded participants to shared rooms: the name and email contact of your roommate will be communicated to you in August.
Travel Support
Unfortunately travel support for airfare is limited and amounts are unlikely to cover full airfare.Travel support recipients should personally arrange for their own travel and reserve their air and train tickets. Recipients will be reimbursed by check in US dollars or Euros upon presentation of travel documents (Original invoice and used boarding passes and a photocopy of all tickets). The preference is to reimburse recipients after the Conference. Information on where to send your receipts and boarding passes for reimbursement will be provided later.
Visa
Visa fees are not covered by the IUSSP. Information on nationalities not requiring a visa is listed on the IUSSP Conference website (http://www.iussp.org/marrakech2009/visa.php) as well as information on visa application procedures for those nationalities needing a visa. If you need a visa, please apply for it as soon as possible.
Those recipients who have been able to obtain financial support from another institution or funding agency after submitting a request for financial support are kindly asked to inform the IUSSP as soon as possible so that the corresponding amount may be offered to another candidate. Any evidence of double funding will result in the complete cancellation of all financial support and jeopardize your application for future IUSSP support.
If your paper is authored by 2 or more persons and more than one member of your team applied for funding, we approved the award for the first author only. However, if you wish to propose another co-author to receive the award, please indicate the name of the co-author who should receive the award on the Confirmation form.
