Pre-conference Workshop on the Demographic Dividend

The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Population Reference Bureau, and the Population and Poverty Research Network are pleased to announce the ICFP Pre-conference Workshop on the Demographic Dividend. The workshop will take place on November 9, 2015, from 8:30am to 2:00pm, in advance of the International Conference on Family Planning in Nusa Dua, Indonesia.


Deadline for applications: September 18 2015 


The workshop will tackle the opportunities and challenges related to achieving the demographic dividend, especially in countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and will equip attendees with information and skills to contribute to moving the demographic dividend agenda forward. Workshop speakers will discuss metrics and methodologies used to quantify the economic impact of 1) the demographic transition and 2) gender equality and women's participation in the formal labor market. The workshop will also instruct attendees on how to effectively engage with policy audiences and other stakeholders on the demographic dividend.



Specifically, the workshop is designed to help researchers and advocates:

  • Understand differences in demographic dividend models and outputs; 
  • Assess the contribution of women to harnessing the demographic dividend;
  • Implement demographic dividend-related development strategies at the country level; and
  • Communicate research on the demographic dividend to non-technical audiences.
