| New newsletter After a long interruption, we are pleased to send you issue 24 of the IUSSP Bulletin. The new IUSSP Bulletin will now be sent out to members by email as an electronic newsletter. This will ensure you receive timely information and allow us to distribute the newsletter more frequently as we have eliminated the time and cost of printing and sending the newsletter by post. We will also be able to provide you with more information. Just click on the links to read full articles or find more information posted on the IUSSP website. |
New Council  The new Council and officers held their first meeting on 30 and 31 January of this year. The main decisions concerned the acceptance of South Africa’s bid to host the next IUSSP Conference in Cape Town in 2017 and the creation of several new Panels. | International Population Conference |
South African proposal for IPC 2017 At the 2013 IUSSP General Assembly, South Africa and India proposed to host the 28th International Population Conference in 2017. Based on a very detailed proposal submitted by South Africa, the IUSSP Council decided to accept their proposal to host the conference in Cape Town.(Read more) |
2013 Busan Conference report The 27th International Population Conference held in Busan, Korea, from 26 to 31 August 2013 brought together over 2,100 population scientists, students and policy makers from 106 countries. The conference was an opportunity for them to present their research and exchange on population issues . (Read more) |
| IUSSP Laureate Award |
2014 Laureate Thérèse Locoh, an active member of the IUSSP since 1965, has been elected the 2014 IUSSP Laureate for her important contributions to demographic research on family, fertility, and gender in Africa. The Laureate Ceremony will take place at the European Population Conference, Budapest, Saturday 28 June 2014 at 11:00 am.(Read more) |
| 2015 Laureate nominations Would you like one of your colleagues to be honoured for their decisive contribution to the advancement of demography and population research? Do not hesitate to round up support and propose a nomination for the 2015 IUSSP Laureate award. Cyberseminar on Family Demography In January 2014, the IUSSP Panel on Family Demography in Developing Countries, in collaboration with the University of Southampton, organized the first of three planned international cyberseminars entitled ‘Family demography: Advancing knowledge about intergenerational relationships and exchanges.’ Papers, discussion forums and videos are avilable on the University of Southampton website. |

Tools for Demographic Estimation Together in one place, and in a user-friendly style, key methods used by demographers everywhere to measure demographic parameters from limited and defective data. At the end of 2013, the website had 2,705 visitors from 147 countries accounting for 4,753 visits; 354 downloads of the full PDF document were registered. Translation of the materials into French was begun at the end of 2013.(Read more) |

IUSSP members are welcome to submit information for inclusion in the newsletter and on the IUSSP website, especially information on upcoming events that would be of interest to the IUSSP membership such as conferences, job openings, post-doctoral positions, and research grants.
