Grabill and Cho’s Own Child Method (OCM), for calculating fertility measures from individual level census data or similar sources, has seen something of a resurgence in recent years. Practitioners have been using the method in both historical and present day contexts. At this meeting members of the team from the Universities of Cambridge and Essex who have been working on an ESRC funded project to produce an Atlas of Victorian Fertility will present their findings alongside other scholars with a wealth of experience in the use of OCM. The meeting will be an opportunity to compare and contrast findings, discuss the advantages and pitfalls of the method, and explore the understanding it offers of fertility and fertility related behaviour in a variety of temporal and spatial settings.

The meeting is an open one, with no registration fee, but as space is limited those intending to attend are asked to book a place by using the form at the link below and returning it to Sophy Arulanantham (sja60@cam.ac.uk) by 5th September 2017 at the latest, please.
Lunch and refreshments will be available on 18th, 19th and 20th at £8 per day, if booked by 5th September. Please indicate your meal requirements on the booking form when booking your place. You are also welcome to join the presenters and organisers for dinner at your own cost on 18th and 19th. Please let us know if you would like to do this.
