A meeting to be co-hosted by the Universities of Cambridge and Essex

Grabill and Cho’s Own Child Method (OCM), for calculating fertility measures from individual level census data or similar sources, has seen something of a resurgence in recent years. Practitioners have been using the method in both historical and present day contexts. At this meeting members of the team from the Universities of Cambridge and Essex who have been working on an ESRC funded project to produce an Atlas of Victorian Fertility will present their findings alongside other scholars with a wealth of experience in the use of OCM. The meeting will be an opportunity to compare and contrast findings, discuss the advantages and pitfalls of the method, and explore the understanding it offers of fertility and fertility related behaviour in a variety of temporal and spatial settings.

Confirmed particpants include: George Alter (Michigan), David Coleman (Oxford), Joe Day (Cambridge), Martin Dribe (Lund), David Hacker (Minnesota), Eilidh Garrett (Essex), Siegfried Gruber (Karl-Franzens-Universität), Hanna Jaadla (Cambridge), Sandra Krapf (Cologne), Michael Levin (Wavefront Data), Steven Lwendo (Wavefront Data), Alice Reid (Cambridge), Francesco Scalone (Bologna), Kevin Schürer (Leicester), Bruno Schoumaker (Université Catholique de Louvain), & Ian Timaeus (LSHTM).
