4th Alpine Population Conference (Alp-Pop 2018)

La Thuile, Aosta Valley (Italy) 14-17 January 2018

Deadline for submissions: 1 September 2017

Organised by the Carlo F. Dondena Centre of Bocconi University and the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research LIVES, Alp-Pop brings together scholars interested in population issues across several disciplines, including demography, economics, epidemiology, political science, sociology and psychology.

Scope:

We welcome submissions on all population issues (e.g. population and health, migration, families and the welfare state; population and economic development/institutions, well-being, etc.). We particularly encourage submissions that take a life course perspective and/or address social inequalities.

The conference emphasises empirical rigor and innovation over a given topic or geographical area, and meets the challenges of interdisciplinary and international audiences.

"Ski-notes"

The confirmed Ski-note speakers for the 2018 Conference are Prof. Richard Burkhauser (Cornell University) and Prof. Gerard Van den Berg (University of Bristol).

Alp-Pop scholars confer both formally and informally. A traditional conference programme (paper and poster presentations) mixes with group activities in a world-class winter resort.

The conference location, the Hotel Planibel in La Thuile, is next to the ski-slopes, and is in close proximity to the airports of Geneva and Torino/Milano.

Financial support:

Participants are expected to seek their own funding. However, the organisers can provide some support for Ph.D. students, provided that these are clearly indicated at the moment of submission. Special-rate rooms have been reserved at the conference hotel with arrival on January 14 (conference starts in the afternoon) and departure on January 17 (the conference will end in the late morning). Participants will receive information on how to reach La Thuile and regular updates on the conference organisation.

Childcare is available upon request. Please indicate in your application if you intend to bring children along to the conference, as well as their age.

Submissions:

Submissions of original papers or extended abstracts are invited by September 1, 2017. Authors will be notified of acceptance by the end of September 2017.

Submissions and inquiries should be addressed via email to: alp.pop@unibocconi.it
