Description: Covid-19 is changing the world. It will have many short and long-term impacts on population dynamics and population health through exposure to the virus as well as through the economic and social disruptions created by the pandemic. The pandemic may alter people’s life trajectories and welfare in ways that may differ across groups (gender, SES, race, and ethnicity). How might population characteristics like age, sex, density, context (large city slums versus poor outlying rural areas), access to services, and people’s reactions to the perceived threats of the pandemic act to intensify or mitigate the effects of COVID?

This first IUSSP webinar will focus on the contributions of population studies to understanding these impacts and explore different research agendas, methodologies, and study designs.  Inspired by a Blog co-written by Alberto Palloni and Stephen Walter, the webinar will bring in additional regional and disciplinary perspectives on how population sciences can address the epidemic and its long-term impacts.

The webinar will begin with a presentation by Alberto Palloni followed by a moderated discussion with panelists and a Question and Answer with participants.
