PAA 2021 is Going Virtual

With all the uncertainty in the world, there is one thing we are sure about: PAA 2021 is happening! We will have a full scientific meeting next spring and look forward to reconnecting with the PAA community and learning about all of the exciting new population research underway. Please mark the dates of May 5-8 on your calendar, if you haven’t already.

While we had very much hoped to gather in person in St. Louis, the COVID-19 pandemic has unfortunately continued to get worse, with rising caseloads across most of the U.S. We are hopeful about the promising vaccine trials underway, but the production and distribution of a vaccine will certainly take time.

In light of these circumstances, at their November meeting last week, the PAA Board of Directors voted unanimously to hold the 2021 annual meeting as a virtual conference. The health and safety of our members is obviously the number one priority. In the end, the Board clearly thought that moving PAA 2021 from St. Louis to a virtual format was the best option and facilitates the most effective way to showcase our research and engage with one another in the context of a pandemic.

We are truly disappointed that we will not be able to see each other in person this spring. We know our community is at its best when we can connect face-to-face, share our findings and ideas, and support each other. But we will do our best this year to try and re-create that experience fully online. Please note that PAA 2021 will begin on Wednesday morning May 5th, so that sessions can be properly spaced out to combat screen fatigue. We will also have live sessions, workshops, networking opportunities, and the Presidential Address and Awards Ceremony.

Registration for PAA 2021 will open in early December. We will continue to keep you informed via email, social media, and on our website.
