Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Assistant in Demography / Social Science, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

The Division of Social Science at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Assistant to work with Professor Stuart Gietel-Basten on the project 'Generations and Gender Survey', a comparative longitudinal survey of work and family formation recently conducted in Hong Kong, as well as HK-Age, a proposed survey of ageing in Hong Kong.
The primary duty of the Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Assistant is to support Professor Gietel-Basten in translating the collected survey data into impact in society and the academic community.
The main responsibilities of the job include:
- Cleaning, weighting and wrangling data;
- Analyzing data;
- Writing technical reports and contributing to articles;
- Writing policy briefs on the survey findings and other impact activities;
- Preparing follow-on grant applications; and
- Handling other ad hoc responsibilities related to impact generation in the Division.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive experience in data management, wrangling, and the quantitative analysis of (social) surveys;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- The ability to write for both scientific and general audiences; and
- The ability to show initiative and work independently and responsibly on the project.
For appointment as a Post-doctoral Fellow, a PhD (in hand) in a relevant social science is required. For appointment as a Research Assistant, a degree (preferably a research master’s degree such as MPhil (in hand) in a relevant social science) is required. (Duration: 1 year)
